How does Instagram algorithm work in 2024?

As I am writing this blog in February 2024, and if you had developed tactics in 2023 for better reach and views in Instagram, you would be seeing a decrease in near future. It’s because the trends of Instagram have changed. Trends such as effects, sounds, length etc. With change in these trends, the priorities of its algorithms have also changed.

In this blog I would add a few points for you to make your strategy more effective for this challenging year.

  1. Have a track of the latest sounds and use them in your videos.  For example: As you must have figured out the pages with videos limited to a single niche perform the best. So, adding the most trending sounds to the same videos would mean something for the algorithm. Admins should check the effects and audio being used and understand them if they are working best in the niche or not.
  2. Instagram is moving towards showing those posts to their users to have then stick around for more time on the app. It’s important to create content that:
    • is trend and our content flows with the trend and not against it.
    • Having a voice over as the users would be keen to listen to the videos and stick to the end of the video.
  3. Adding multiple scenes in the video which change every 2 to 3 seconds. This is useful as it would reset the user’s brain at those time intervals, and they end up watching the whole video. Due to this, Instagram increases the reach of the post as its algorithm concludes that the post was interesting as the users saw it and wants to feed it to other users too.
  4. Do not remove the ghost followers from the account. This may indirectly show that people are not liking your content thus unfollowing you and creates negative impact.
  5. Stop getting fake engagement such as fake followers, fake views as only organic growth would sustain in the long run.
  6. Topic of the post that we are working on is trending. We often come across posts from accounts whose followers are far lesser than the views the post have got. This means that Instagram is willing to show this content to users beyond the followers of the account. So we can try building content around that idea and post it.
  7. Try to post content that is worth sharing for your consumers. If ay post is sharing by a person to another, it would mean that people actually like it and Instagram would show it to other users as well. In this case beyond algorithms, we would have real people pushing your content to others for your page’s growth.
  8. The number of replays in your video. Find ways that people watch the video in loops. For example a way can be that when we take a clip from another video and copy paste the content from starting of our video at its end as well. People may not realise the same and keep watching the video in loops.
  9. The page’s bio should be clear and have the information of accounts that we are trying to reach. Instagram would on its own try to reach the people who are willing to consume your content as its relevant to them.
